"THE THINGS THEY SAY... "

KEMPTON, Sept 24,2001; Mananan Mclir (who is a Grade2 winner in USA now) had this to say after his first victory as a 2yr-old:

"Well, I remember the day well because it was my first win but the main reason was obviously because Sgt Cecil was making his debut in the same race I remember him well a very colourful chestnut who wasn´t really taking things that serious (but then again who does as a 2yrs-old) anyway he was 100/1 so I suppose his connections were happy enough with the result but I must admit I didn´t see a lot of him in the race because my orders were to make all which I did. He finished 8th of the 11 runners and was quite puffed out when I was talking to him later but he said he enjoyed the day out and intended being around for a while. To be honest; I cannot remember ever seeing the bugger, just want to be polite! "

LINGFIELD(AW)March 27,2002; Frankies Dream who raced in Grp company later on in his career met Sgt Cecil on the A-W cicuit in a class4 maiden over 1m,2f.
" Well he was 2 boxes away from me in the stalls and all you could hear was "They are backing me I tell ya!! Im going for this one! They are backing me" and he was bragging that he was only 25/1 after being 100/1 on his first 2 outings well this went on even as the race was being run! Well it really did me head in so much so that I lost my place 2 out and just failed to get up and was beat a head by one of Jarvis´s with that man Fallon up. But I must say that for all his bragging he´s a grand lad that Sgt Cecil fellow."

SANDOWN 15 June,2002; Dr Cool
" Remember him well as he was not his jovial self that day. He was going on about a rumour that he might be leaving his current yard and he was a bit worried about the move but some of the horses next to him were trying to cheer him up a bit telling him that this Rod Millman is a good bloke and he shouldn´t worry about it. Well that eased his mind and he was his usual self when we set off over an extended 1m,6f in fact he almost ran out at the first bend we were peeing ourselves laughing. Anyway he had shown a bit of form that day only beaten 4 lgth and the last I heard a mate of mine said he was settled in really well with Rod Millman."
